World Food Day: Alfano, investing in rural development

Rome - On the occasion of the World Food Day (WFD), the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio will perform a concert with the theme "Share music, Change the Future", organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in partnership with the International Organizations based in Rome. "This year's theme for the World Food Day could not be more topical: investing in food security and in sustainable rural development as an effective means of fighting forced migration," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano. Alfano continued: "Italy, together with the Rome-based UN food and agriculture Agencies team, is playing a part in reversing the current trend, which shows that almost 800 million people are suffering from hunger. It is a huge challenge that shows the commitment of the Italian Cooperation service through its numerous inclusive and sustainable development initiatives aimed at fighting hunger, which, however, require a greater effort on everybody's part." The concert will close an important day dedicated to food security, officially opened at the FAO offices in Rome on the morning of October 16, in the presence of the Holy Father, who brought a message aimed at raising public awareness on the issue of food security. The concert, presented by Milly Carlucci, will take place at the music complex Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, with songs from "L'isola di Legno: quindici anni di Viaggi e Incontri Musicali" and from "The Magic Flute according to the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio".
