Wine: Franciacorta Festival celebrates 50 years of DOC

Milan - The Franciacorta in Cantina Festival will return on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September. The year 2017 is packed with activities: the Festival will kick off a number of important events: starting with the weekend, with a program aimed at offering social opportunities through culture, sports, nature and, naturally, food&wine. Visitors will be able to explore the area by taking part in the many activities offered by the Strada del Franciacorta association: from bus tours to hiking or cycling trails, including visits to abbeys, villages, buildings, villas, gardens and nature reserves. This year it will be 50 years since Franciacorta was awarded DOC status, a crucial moment for the development of the denomination that marked the beginning of an ongoing wine production. Franciacorta's storytelling will also be enhanced with a major conference to be held on Monday, September 18, during which the results of a remarkable research project commissioned by Consorzio Franciacorta to Domenico De Masi's studio will be presented. "Having a vision and sharing it has been essential for the growth of our companies and of the local area. But time passes quickly. Today, in order to meet new and ever-increasing challenges, we need to be ahead of our time," explains Vittorio Moretti, President of Consorzio Franciacorta. Hence the project that sees sociologist Domenico De Masi entrusted with the task of planning the future of the Franciacorta region and of Franciacorta wine for the next 10 years.
