South Africans to feast on Italian films in Cape Town

Cape Town - The XVII edition of Italian Film Focus festival will take place in Cape Town from November 29 to December 3, the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria announced on Tuesday. The film festival is the result of a long collaboration involving the Institute, the Italian Consulate in Cape Town, Associazione Controluce and the Labia Theatre in Cape Town. The Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism will also support the festival.

"The aim of the festival is to offer South African cinema lovers and sector experts not only a selection of the recent Italian productions that have been presented at major European festivals, but also an insight into contemporary Italian society," the Institute said. There are eight movies scheduled for the festival. The movies, featuring the work of a new young generation of Italian filmakers, cover different genres and styles, including animation and musicals. The screenings, which will take place at the Labia Theatre, will be attended by Italian actors, directors and writers, who will also participate in workshops and meetings with students and their South African counterparts. The movies to be featured at the festival include: Cinderella the Cat (2017) by A. Rak, Ivan Cappiello, Marino Guarnieri and Dario Sansone; Equilibrium (2017) by Vincenzo Marra; Friends by Chance (2017) by Francesco Bruni; Love and bullets (2017) by Antonio Manetti e Marco Manetti; The Ark of Disperata (2017) by Edoardo Winspeare; The Art of Happiness (2013) by Alessandro Rak; The Order of Things (2017) by Andrea Segre and Ugly Nasty People (2017) by Cosimo Gomez.
