Cape Town - The Consulate of Italy in Cape Town will from today start hosting the second edition of the The Extraordinary Italian Taste - World Week of Italian Cuisine until November 26. The World Week of Italian Cuisine is a project by the Italian goverment aimed at promoting the agri-food and wine industries of Italy at an international level on an annual basis. The event is organised through a cooperative effort by Italian institutions, universities, trade associations, cooking schools, restuarants and food-and-wine and design companies throughout the world. "The aim of the Week, which the Italian government has promoted worldwide with more than 1000 activities organised by the Italian diplomatic missions, is to boost the export and distribution of authentic Italian food-and-wine products, as well as to enhance tourist destinations, territories, culinary art itineraries and the Mediterranean Diet," consul-general Alfonso Tagliaferri said. Among the activities organised by the consulate in Cape Town for this week include a lecture on food photography by Italian photographer Graziano Villa at the ORMS School of Photography. Titled "Italian-style Lighting in Food Still-lifes", Villa explores the techniques of photography, with particular attention to the use of light in still-life objects and the composition of still-life objects. Villa, one of Italy's most important photographers, has worked in four photography fields: fashion, portraits, reportages and still-lifes. In the still-life field he has specialised particularly in food. "Furthermore, during the whole week, some Italian restaurants will offer special regional menus to promote Italian culinary traditions," said Tagliaferri. These restaurants include the Ristorante Amore, La Trattoria, Magica Roma and Trattoria Maranello.
