Palermo - "Andy Warhol. The Art of Being Famous" is the Pop Art exhibition held, between 19 October and 7 January, at Palazzo Sant'Elia, in Palermo. It features 166 different pieces, including artwork from the Rosini Gutman Collection, created by the artist during most of his career, from 1957 to 1987, year in which he died. The exhibition organized by Fondazione Sant'Elia is a collection of Warhol's most famous pieces: from Gold Book, created in occasion of one of the artist's exhibitions at the Bodley Gallery in New York, in the early 1950s, to Suzie Farkfurt's "recipes", Wild Raspberries, a handwritten book, created with the help of his mother Giulia Warhol, that teased those oh-so-serious French cuisine books popular at that time; some of the most famous subjects of the 60s, 70s and 80s include the iconic Marilyn Monroe and the charming Liz Taylor; the unmistakable Coca Cola bottles and the legendary Campbell's soup cans; as well as Flowers, Mao, Mick Jagger, Liza Minnelli, Joseph Beuys and Ladies and Gentlemen. Elements such as the seriousness and precision of the serigraphy technique and the concepts of "copy" and "re-use", are essential to understand the path taken by this unique, innovative and forward-thinking artist at a time when Pop Art was not yet in full swing and had not reached Europe.
