Milan - Investments in renewable energy and the Environment continue in "what we call sustainability". This statement was made by the CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, during his speech at the "Italian Energy Summit", currently being held in Milan at the "Sole 24 ore" HQ. Descalzi explained that renewable "energy is where we are headed; nevertheless, we cannot be extremists, we need to grow and be reasonable. We need to work on a sustainable energy mix".According to Descalzi, Eni "is growing steadily, we have the facilities and the assets to replace gas with solar energy for our internal use. This is why the renewable energy segment will also be significant in terms of Ebit in the near future". The CEO of Eni went on to explain: "We have 15 active projects across reclaimed land, spanning approximately 4 thousand hectares. In Italy, and also in Africa, where we are number one and hold a good position, striving towards replacing gas to power our plants with renewable energy, especially through photovoltaic systems. The benefits are outstanding: gas is no longer burned and it is sold instead". This is another reason why investment in research is on-going: "Over recent years, we have invested 1.5 billion Euro in renewable energy and the Environment".
