Prosecco's harvest on its way, producers have great expectations
Venice - The grape harvesting of the Prosecco Docg, one of the most successful Italian wines in the world, is on its way, starting from its easternmost and youngest vineyards. For the viticulturists of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, this is the busiest time of the year, as on a land defined by very steep and irregular ground, often inaccessible to machines, they have to spend many hours along the rows, manually picking the Glera grapes.
This year, due to the weather conditions, harvesting started approximately 10 days earlier, as predicted by the experts of the Consortium for the protection of the wine, and compared to the figures of previous years, it looks like 2017 will be very similar to 2015, which had registered very good results, leaving wine produces optimistic. The quality is expected to be excellent and grape tasting, one of the pre-harvest technical testing stages, has given positive results in terms of the sweetness and hints of fruitiness that we will be able to enjoy in our glasses. Also, the estimated overall yield and prices of the grapes seem to be in line with the figures of 2016.
