Pompei - A maxi shopping mall is to open not far from the most famous archaeological digs in the world. A 150 million Euro investment in an area where trade, also illegal, is one of the problems being addressed to add more decorum to the town and boost its economy. Works for the futuristic Maximall Pompeii have already begun, just 500 meters from the town walls.

The multi-purpose shopping mall is to be built by IrgenRE Group, one of Italy's biggest firms in the Real Estate Development and Management market for the commercial sector. The project will be revealed by Paolo Negri, CEO and owner of IrgenRE Group, at Mapic (the International Retail Property Trade Show) scheduled to take place in Cannes (France) from 15 to 17 November next. "Our choice of venue - he explains - was supported by a study we commissioned from CACI which acknowledges the project has a potential of approximately 12 million visitors in the first year alone, and a turnover of over 350 million". The facility is part of a broader urban gentrification process in an area that stretches form the port of Torre Annunziata to that of Castellammare di Stabia. The multi-purpose shopping mall spans a surface area of 200 thousand square meters, which will also host a 4-star hotel with 120 double rooms, a 3 thousand square-meter movie theater with 8 screens, 24 restaurants spread over 4 thousand square meters. As well as: a piazza-amphitheater for events spanning a generous 5,500 square meters and a 2 thousand square-meter multi-media square, with a car park designed to accommodate 4 thousand cars. Surrounding the Maximall Pompeii, 27 thousand square meters of public greenery with 15 thousand square meters of lawn. There will also be a dancing fountain inside the Food Piazza, the dimensions of which will stretch approximately 110 meters in width and around 75 meters in length, recalling the design of the neighboring famous Piazza del Plebiscito, the symbol of Naples.

The shopping mall roof will house an urban park, where joggers can go for a run. The Maximall Pompeii will be distributed over two floors, which will house more than 200 stores, home to the most significant international and Italian labels, all combined with the excellence of Campania tailoring, to ensure and expand the offering of "accessible luxury". Works are scheduled to be completed by 2019.
