Montreal - During the "17th Italian Language throughout the World Week", Montreal university is set to welcome an Italian guest, Francesco Palmieri, AGI journalist and writer, who is to hold a conference on "The musical voices of Neapolitan dialect, amid poetry, drama and movies".
The initiative is scheduled to take place on 17 October, and it is organized by the Montreal Italian Cultural Institute in partnership with the Departement de litteratures et de langues du monde of the University of Montreal. The event will cover the use of Neapolitan dialect in newly-united Italy, its cross-contamination with the Italian language, the dialect's musical adaptations and how music has adapted to it through use. Palmieri will also talk about the comprehensibility and exportation of the language, from the parody of Ferdinando Russo's "Piccola borghesia", to the "macchietta", from the mute backstage of "Assunta Spina" to the comedy of Eduardo De Filippo
