Migrations: Agreement signed between Italy and the EASO

 Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi

Rome - A Headquarters Agreement between Italy and the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) to establish an office of the European agency in Rome was signed this morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation by the Director General for the European Union Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, and the Executive Director of the EASO, José Carreira.
The Agreement is a strong sign of Italy’s will to enhance its cooperation with the EASO in establishing an increasingly shared European responsibility in managing asylum seekers and forms the premise for a growingly stable and structured cooperation between Rome and the Agency.

The EASO is actively engaged in supporting the national asylum system, with special focus on the work performed in the so-called hotspots in respect of the process to relocate asylum seekers.

The Agreement will now need to be ratified by the Management Board of EASO and by the Italian Parliament.
