Italy-Vietnam: 'Home' exhibition in Hanoi, alliance in creativity

 Hanoi, Vietnam (Afp)

Hanoi - "HOME" exhibition, featuring 30 artworks portraying the home and the environment by Italian painter Laura Federici and Vietnamese painter Nguyen Dam Thuy, is being showcased at Casa Italia in Hanoi. Organised by Italian Embassy in Vietnam, the join exhibition, is the result of an unprecedented residency project that allowed Federici to experience life and work in Ho Chi Minh city. The project will take the Vietnamese painter to Italy in the near future. By painting side-by-side, Laura and Thuy - previously strangers to each other - have quickly developed a connection, resulting in the evolution of the colors and forms of their paintings, mutually contaminated, influenced and enriched by the unpredictable path of their artistic and human exchanges, the Italian Embassy said in its statement. According to Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, Cecilia Piccioni, "HOME" is far more than an art exhibition. It is an experimental journey through feelings and creativity celebrating in itself the values of understanding, acceptance and integration which have always been at the core of the friendship between Italian and Vietnamese people.
"HOME" is also a colourful and joyful call to raise our awareness on the need to protect the Earth. In line with the efforts that we are carrying out at local, regional and international level to put forward a shared agenda whose top priority is ensuring the sustainability of our growth. The two female artist's works dedicated to the lashing water landscapes of the canals in Mekong Delta, to the floating houses along the rivers or to the views of Rome under a charming tropical rain are a unique, gentle reminder of our common duty to protect and preserve our environment and its beauty for the sake of future generations, the Italian Embassy said.
Federici lives and works in Rome. She has held exhibitions in Italy, Syria, the United States and France. Her art - large oils on canvas, videos, pictorial interventions on photographs - mostly reflect the reality of what she has seen and experienced.
Thuy was born and raised in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre. She has held several exhibitions in Ho Chi Minh City and in Germany, China, Thailand and the United States. Her painting style reflects nature, blending between impressions and reality.
The exhibition marks the third anniversary of the opening of the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. After the opening of the exhibition at Casa Italia in Hanoi, the "Home" project is put into the framework of the European Climate Diplomacy Week, meaningful container of activities aimed at sharing with the Vietnamese public the EU core messages leading its concrete action in the key area of the climate change challenges and environmental protection.
