Italy-Georgia: Government and businesses talks in Tbilisi

Rome - Promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and by the Ministry of Economic Development and organized by Confindustria (General Confederation of Italian Industry) Agenzia Ice, the Government and businesses mission in Tbilisi begins today and focuses on energy, infrastructures, transport and agroindustry. According to an announcement, the initiative, led by Ivan Scalfarotto, undersecretary to Economic Development, represents a major opportunity to promote economic cooperation between Italy and Georgia and develop business and investment opportunities for Italian companies. The delegation includes over 35 companies and 2 industry associations, totalling over 70 participants. The meetings will start today with a first session to introduce investment opportunities in Georgia, chaired by the Minister of the Economy and Sustainable Development, Giorgi Gakharia, during which the strategies of intervention by the leading international financial institutions operating in the country will also be presented (EBRD, Asian Development Bank, World Bank and European Investment Bank). Three technical workshops, dedicated to the main sectors of the initiative, will follow, during which the ministers of the various sectors, the leaders of government development agencies and the representatives of Georgias leading companies will illustrate the major investment projects planned in Georgia over the next few years. The day will continue with afternoon meetings between the participating Italian companies and Georgian institutions and counterparts. Further institutional meetings, including one with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mikheil Janelidze, will be held on 5 October. Italy and Georgia enjoy excellent business relations. Italy ranks as the 4th largest EU trade partner of Georgia and the 10th largest in the world. Georgias imports from Italy consist mostly of machinery and equipment for the industry, agriculture and infrastructure supply chain as well as consumer goods.
