Indonesia: Italian manufacturers increase cooperation

 Alessandro  Liberatori

Jakarta - Italian manufacturers expressed their interest to increase cooperation with their Indonesian counterparts, particularly in printing and packaging, during the 2017 Printech Indonesia event in Kemayoran, North Jakarta. "[Indonesia is] a very interesting prospect market for Italian companies. We are willing to strengthen cooperation with Indonesian industries," Alessandro Liberatori, director of the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in Jakarta, said.

The 2017 Printech Indonesia event which was held on November 15-18, 2017 was attended by more than 600 companies from 24 countries and 7 pavilions including China, Germany, India, Italy, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan. These countries sent representatives of companies that highlight the benefits of their products. Italy presented its product superiority co-ordinated by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) with the Italian Manufacturers Association of Machinery for the Graphic Converting and Paper Industry (ACIMGA). The Italian Pavilion at the 2017 Printech Indonesia featured nine Italian companies in graphic, paper and converting machinery, including Acigraf, Cerutti Packaging Equipment and Uteco Converting.

According to Liberatori, the printing market in Indonesia is very prospective because Indonesia ranks second with growth of its printing industry growing 11.2% in 2012 to 2017. "It is a prospective business opportunity. Italian-made machines in the printing or packaging sector are known by the Asian market because the technology is advanced and customizable," he said. He hopes that the event will facilitate interaction and create a foundation to foster cooperation between Indonesian and Italian businesses.

"In Indonesia there is no industry for graphic machinery. All our machinery for printing is imported from overseas," Ahmad Mughira Nurhani, chairman of the Indonesian Print and Media Association, said. Speaking at the event, Italian Ambassador to Indonesia Vittorio Sandalli also emphasized that "Italy can offer longstanding expertise and high level of technology" in this sector. According to business development director of the Indonesian Packaging Federation (IPF), Ariana Susanti, Indonesia's packaging market size currently stands at $6.7 billion. The federation is expecting an increase of 4 to 6 percent by the end of the year, and targets an increase to $9.6 billion in the next few years.
