India: a Symposium to celebrate 70th year of Independance

Rome - The year 2017 will be remembered as the time of the seventieth anniversary of India Independence. On this occasion the International Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), jointly with ISMEO-International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies, proposes to bring together witnesses, academicians, and scholars, both of Indian and foreign origin, united by their love for India, in order to throw light on a selection of the great themes that acquire extraordinary relevance on the attainment of this temporal milestone.
    It will take the shape of a Symposium in the Renaissance setting of Rome's Biblioteca Angelica (piazza S.Agostino,8 Roma - 4 pm to 7.30 pm) on Saturday 11th November: "Voices of Freedom. History, Society, and Culture in the 70th year of India's Independance"(with Dr. Fiammetta Terlizzi, Director Biblioteca Angelica; H.E. Mrs.Reenat Sandhu, Ambassador of India to Italy; Dr. Tiziana Lorenzetti, President International Institute of South Asian Studies ISAS; Prof. Adriano Rossi, President, ISMEO – International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies).
    A whole spectrum of the Country's features, from the historical to the social, to the artistic, will be explored, with a view to mark trends and tendencies that emerged with Independence, and which continue to characterize the evolution and development of Indian democracy.
