Clusone (Bergamo) - To promote local fauna in the Bergamo region, eco-sustainability and provide new impetus to food-and-wine tourism by establishing a traceable supply chain in respect of game. These are the aims of "Selvatici e Buoni", the project launched on September 22 in the Comunita' Montana di Clusone (BG). The project, developed by the Universita' di Scienze Gastronomiche, Pollenzo, in collaboration with the Dipartimento di Medicina Veterinaria, Universita' di Milan and Societa' Italiana di Medicina Veterinaria Preventiva, with the support of non-profit organization Fondazione UNA, aims to promote excellence in often under-valued foods such as game.

This has enormous potential in the Bergamo region given the presence of over 13,000 wild ungulates, including red and roe deer, chamois, and wild boar. The Bergamo region is therefore the forerunner in Italy of the Selvatici e Buoni project, which will be rolled out in other Italian provinces to highlight the excellence of local game. The project was launched on September 22, following a lengthy and constructive consultation period and technical meetings with local organizations and stakeholders who have shown increasing interest and will take an active role in implementing the project.

A survey carried out over preceding months resulted in significant expressions of interest which were then mapped onto the operational availability of regional authorities and organizations. In particular, the Comprensorio Alpino di Caccia Valle Borlezza, Comprensorio Alpino di Caccia Val di Scalve, Comprensorio Alpino Valle Seriana, Comprensorio Alpino di Caccia 'Prealpi Bergamasche', UNCZA Prealpi Orobiche, Slowfood Valli Orobiche, Enalcaccia Bergamo, ANUU Associazione dei Migratoristi, CIC Italian Delegation, Federcaccia Bergamo and ARCI Caccia have all expressed their interest. The aforementioned will be supported by major regional authorities that have indicated their wish to collaborate on the project. These include ATS Bergamo, Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale Bergamo, Corpo Polizia Provinciale Bergamo, ASCOM Bergamo Formazione e Sviluppo and 3 Comunita' Montane organizations: Valle di Scalve, Laghi Bergamaschi and Valle Seriana.
