Venice - A new organization for studying social network dynamics will be opening in September in Venice Ca' Foscari University. It will be headed by Walter Quattrociocchi, researcher known internationally for his studies on online misinformation dynamics, in the scope of the Laboratory of Data Science and Complexity with the goal of further expanding the field of analysis of his team of young researchers. "Data science is a crucial tool for understanding the complexity that surrounds us and above to all to understand our society", Quattrociocchi explained. "The key must be interdisciplinary, and for historical and social reasons Venice is the perfect place to launch a new renaissance in this direction". Quattrociocchi, born in Rome 37 years ago, was head of the Laboratory of Computational Social Science (CSSLab) at the IMT School for Advanced Studies, Lucca. Before that, he worked at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies, CNR, and at Mobs Lab, Northeastern University. He has published over 60 articles on prestigious international scientific magazines. The results of his studies were used in the World Economic Forum 2016 and 2017 Global Risk Reports and have enjoyed major coverage from mainstream publications, like the Economist, Fortune, the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Scientific American (translated in five languages) and the New Scientist. He headed the Table for Relationships with Universities and Fake News Research called by the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Boldrini and has actively collaborated with national and international organizations to study the social dynamics induced by new media.
