Rome - One million euros, from the Fund for Africa, has been pledged to improve the registration system in Ethiopia and grant underage citizens their right to identity. The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mario Giro, posted the news on his Facebook page. "This measure is part of the broader set of actions aimed at the development of statistics, which includes Istat's recent "Assistance to the Statistical Sector" measures to support the fourth General Population Survey in Ethiopia", explained Giro. The project entails structural and technical support for the register offices in Oromia e Snnpr".

It is estimated that approximately 800 thousand newborns will benefit from the 12-month project in the areas where the standardized registration and certification will be made available. In particular, the project will supply motorcycles for 40 hard-to-reach areas and will train 6,107 registration office staff.
