Egypt: Ambassador  Cantini  meets Minister of Environment

Egypt: Ambassador Cantini meets Minister of Environment

Cairo - Ambassador Cantini discussed the third phase of the Egyptian-Italian Environmental Cooperation Programme (EIECP III) for a total amount of 3 million euros, whose details are yet to be finalized.
In the same framework, it was announced the contribution by Aics Cairo, the local Italian Cooperation Office, to the Conference COP 14 - related to the Convention on Biological Diversity - scheduled in Sharm el Sheikh from 10th to 22nd November 2018. Ambassador Cantini and Minister Fahmy hoped for the prompt start of the cooperation between the two Ministries of Environment, on the basis of a MoU already signed. At the same time, they convened about the benefit provided by the Italian-Egyptian Debt Swap Programme to the environmental sector. The Italian support to the Egyptian Protected Areas (SEPA) project (Wadi Hitan Fossil & Climate Change Museum in the so called Valley of the Whales) and the Solid Waste Management project in Minya Governorate (establishment of a recycling plant) are two major examples in this sense.
The meeting was also dedicated to discuss in detail specific initiatives by Italian companies in the Egyptian environmental sector.
