Digital: Italy to host Computer Vision Conference in Venice

Venice - The "International Conference on Computer Vision", the leading event for scholars, experts and technology giants involved in scientific research on the development of electronic "eyes", which are more and more present in everyday life, will be held in Italy for the very first time. From October 22 to 29, the Venice Convention Center of the Palazzo del Cinema, at the Lido di Venezia, will host the biennial congress, to be attended by 3,000 participants (more than twice the number of people compared to the 2015 edition held in Chile) and more than 60 industrial exhibitors, including Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, Google and Amazon. In addition to presenting over 600scientific publications, participants will take part in 9 short courses and 44 in-depth workshops. "These record numbers indicate the extent to which research on artificialvision and, more generally, on artificial intelligence has rapidly evolved in recent years," says Marcello Pelillo, head of the organizing committee and professor at Ca' Foscari University in Venice. "The participation of this many players in the industry also confirms it is a growing sector, whereas until about 10 years ago it wastypically confined to academic laboratories".
