Nicosia - The Italian government is in favor of restarting peace negotiations for the reunification of Cyprus. This was stated by the Italian ambassador to Cyprus, Andrea Cavallari, during a meeting with the secretary of the Cypriot progressive workers' party (Akel), Andros Kyprianou, quoted by the "Cyprus News Agency". Cavallari explained that he wanted to clarify some issues with the leader of Akel, including the prospect of resumption of negotiations.
On the hydrocarbons issue, the ambassador said this is a question that should be resolved between the island's two communities. "I had a very interesting meeting with Mr Kyprianou and we discussed a number of issues," said Cavallari, adding that "I was very much interested in knowing his view on the developments in a number of questions, in particular the Cyprus problem and the prospect of resumption of negotiations."
