Crafts, fabrics and trades: Siena goes back to the Middle Ages

Florence - The center of Siena, in front of the Basilica dei Servi, will host a medieval market, with its products, its artisans at work, sounds, colorful fabrics and costumes. Scheduled for Friday 29 November, Researchers' Night will animate Siena with over 90 scientific dissemination events. Archaeologists from the University of Siena will stage 'A 13th - 14th century Fair'. As stated in the press release, archaeologists and historical reconstruction experts, dressed in costumes carefully crafted according to iconographic research, will show the public various medieval trades and answer any question from children and grown ups. For the first time, this event brings to Siena the multi-awarded experience of the Poggibonsi Archaeodrome, whose Research Director is Marco Valenti of the University of Siena. The whole area surrounding the Basilica dei Servi will be allocated to Cultural Heritage studies, including performances dedicated to prehistory and one meeting on the "Enigma of Sator Square" at Palazzo Fumaioli. The Santa Chiara Lab, accessible from via Valdimontone 1, will also feature history and Middle Ages, together with many events dedicated to new technologies like coding, robotics, digital handicrafts and visits to the Fab Lab.
