Broadband: Emilia-Romagna to be most digital region by 2020

Bologna - By 2020 all areas of Emilia-Romagna will be equipped with ultra-broadband services. A great challenge in terms of building sites and interventions, with investments totaling EUR 255 million, but also a real revolution that will improve citizens' lifestyles, working and learning habits and will impact every sector: schools, firms, government. Emilia-Romagna is not starting from scratch: 298 municipalities and 885 schools are already connected to ultra-broadband as the region tops all others in Italy for number of connected schools. Thanks to Emilia-RomagnaWiFi, there will be 3 thousand active free internet access points in the region's public squares, places and buildings, from Piacenza to Rimini. After, the national Digital Festival taking place in Modena, offers the opportunity to gain an overview of the implementation of the Plan for Ultra-Broadband in Emilia-Romagna and the rest of Italy. National and regional governments have earmarked over EUR 3 billion for this crucial infrastructure, in order to modernize the country, eliminate regional differences and spearhead economic and social transformations. "The future is here; by 2020 we want to be Italy's most digital region, with new growth opportunities for our regional society and new quality jobs", said the region's President Stefano Bonaccini.
