Alitalia receives IATA certification on baggage tracking

Alitalia receives IATA certification on baggage tracking

Alitalia is the first airline in Europe to have received a certificate of compliance with 'IATA Resolution 753' for baggage handling operations at the Rome Fiumicino hub. The goal of this Resolution, as stated in a note, is to increase the tracking of checked baggage, that is baggage carried in the hold of the aircraft, thus improving passenger service and further reducing the number of lost or delayed luggage. The Italian company received this certification well before June 2018, which is the final date for compliance with this new IATA (International Air Transport Association) directive.

The 'IATA Resolution 753', which all companies that are members of IATA must comply with by June 2018 - provides for all checked baggage to be monitored continuously from the beginning to the end of each journey: from check-in and loading into the hold, until transfer to another flight (in the case of transit baggage) or arrival, when baggage is returned to the passenger.

The recognition received on November 20, as the airline concludes, is yet another demonstration of Alitalia's excellent performance at the Rome Fiumicino hub. In particular, in 2017, Alitalia has improved its average baggage reclaim time by 13% compared with the previous year.
