(AGI) Rome, Mar 23 - Tunisian diplomat Azouz Ennifar, who has been posted as ambassador in several prestigious international settings, has been appointed as Secretary General of the Joint Italian-Arab Chamber (JIAC). The announcement was made by the first vice-president, Yousuf Al Maimani, and the second vice-president, Pietro Paolo Rampino, who met on Wednesday in Rome with the Council of Arab Ambassadors in Italy. The ambassador of the Arab League in Rome and the dean of the Arab Ambassadors were also in attendance. Mr Ennifar, who served as ambassador to the United States between 1994 and 1997, was the Tunisian delegate to the World Bank and to the International Monetary Fund before coming to serve as ambassador in Rome in 1998. The Tunisian diplomat has also led crucial humanitarian missions as Secretary General of the United Nations mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea. Mr Al Maimani commented on the appointment of Azouz Ennifar as secretary general of the Joint Italian-Arab Chamber, by saying that the institution "will benefit from this high-profile dignitary who will stand with the other prestigious members of the Board, granting further prestige to the international association. We are certain that the experience acquired by the new secretary general throughout his brilliant career, pursued also in economic, financial and commercial settings, will contribute positively to the development of the JIAC. The Arab Ambassadors in Rome have confirmed their support to the Joint Italian-Arab Chamber, acknowledging that it is the benchmark for development in economic and cultural relations between Italy and the Arab world."
