Rome - In Great Britain, the British Department for Transport (DfT) shortlisted Trenitalia UK as a bidder for the South Eastern rail franchise. In January 2017, Trenitalia UK, Trenitalia's wholly owned subsidiary under Italian law based in London, took over the company Nxet (National Express Essex Thameside), which manages the franchise c2c (City to Coast) for connections between London and Shoeburyness, on the east coast in the South Essex region. In addition, First Trenitalia West Coast Rail Limited, the partnership between FirstGroup and Trenitalia, is the shortlisted bidder in the rail franchise competition for the British West Coast. "We are proud to be shortlisted in the tenders for these two British franchises," Barbara Morgante, CEO of Trenitalia, commented.

"The South Eastern franchise marks the first time we are participating in a UK bidding process alone. After being awarded the PPQ passport less than two years ago, we are already demonstrating our commitment to the British market. We believe - she concluded - that the significant experience we have gained in the highly competitive Italian railway market fully meets the characteristics required for the South Eastern franchise, as well as customer expectations: cutting-edge services for high-speed railway lines and quality services for commuters".
