(AGI) Turin, Sept 8 - The International Architecture Award 2016 has been awarded to the Air Traffic Control Tower (ATC) and Technical Building designed for the Istanbul New Airport by Pininfarina and AECOM. They are among the projects rewarded by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, which organise the global prize. The winning designs were selected by architects and critics from a shortlist of 370. The president of the Pininfarina Group, Paolo Pininfarina, said: "The award is a recognition of our ability to create a symbol for the city of Istanbul, a unique combination of distinctiveness and references to Turkey's culture. We're honoured to split the prize with AECOM, a perfect partner for creating masterpieces of contemporary architecture." AECOM's Director of Architecture, Clive Lewis, said: "The ATC for the Istanbul New Airport is the first collaboration between AECOM and Pininfarina, so to us the fact that the design received an award is particularly special." Yusuf Akcayoglu, CEO of IGA Airports Construction, said: "Winning the International Architecture Award 2016 with the ATC and Technical Building at Istanbul New Airport is an honour for us. Our aerodynamically shaped tower will be seen by all passengers traveling between Europe and Asia via the Istanbul New Airport." (AGI).
