(AGI) Milan, July 7 - The Piaggio Group on Thursday signed marketing agreements in the South American market for its Vespa and Piaggio brands. The scooters will be sold in Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. The Piaggio Group also has plans for an additional marketing program in Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia in the next few months. "Having implemented expansion in Asia, we are now targeting a return as key players in South America," affirmed the Piaggio Group's Chairman and CEO, Roberto Colaninno. "Through these important marketing agreements, we are opening up to a flourishing and constantly growing market, which we have yet to explore in depth. The local markets were the first to ask us to bring the Vespa back to their regions, and we believe this move for expansion and growth will also be a step towards creating new opportunities for our other brands." The Piaggio Group plans to open four Motoplex concept stores in Brazil by the end of 2016: in the southern district of Sao Paulo; Rio de Janeiro; Curitiba; and the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte. The scooter segment is enjoying a period of particularly strong growth in Brazil. Sales have increased by 60 percent between 2009 and 2015 to 300,000 units, constituting 18 percent of total motorised two-wheeler sales.. .
