Made in Italy: LAFLO hold "Italian Design Day" in Jakarta

Jakarta - The Italian Embassy, Italian Cultural Institute, and the Italian Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with LAFLO has held the first edition of "Italian Design Day" to promote "Made in Italy" products and the Italian lifestyle around the world, in one day. The event was opened on March 2, 2017 at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Jakarta with the seminar "The Italian Design: between tradition and innovation", with speakers among others a Italian architect and product designer Raffaella Mangiarotti and Indonesian architect Cosmas Gozali.
Working in Milan, Italy, Mangiarotti said that his product design is inspired by the life around him. "I work with other people, for people," he said. In his presentation, the design results of his products are shown not only have good function and tended environmentally friendly, but also visually beautiful. One example is Dandelion, a standing lamp inspired by the dandelions. The product made in 2005 is the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, USA.
"What needs to be learned by Indonesia is to appreciate the tradition. Indonesian people have a custom to underestimate the tradition," Cosmas said. Europeans are not only appreciate the tradition they have, but also to develop the tradition to become a product that can be consumed in the present. "Italian Design Day" will be closed with the exhibition "Living Italian Design" held on March 16, 2017 in LAFLO, Senayan. The exhibition curated by Cosmas is exhibiting various Italian products which are in Jakarta, showing how the Italian lifestyle affects Indonesian people.
