Kashmir under curfew to prevent protests for militant killing

(AGI) - New Delhi, Jul 15 - Curfewwas imposed on Friday in Indian administered Kashmir as precautionary measure in view of Friday prayers and to prevent people from hitting the streets to protest the killing of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani last week. At least 38 people were killed and hundreds other injured in clashes in Kashmir valley, which has been witnessing curfew and shutdown for the past one week. Witnesses said that police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in strength across the Valley to thwart any protests. "Curfew has been imposed in all 10 districts of Kashmir Valley today as a precautionary measure for maintaining law and order," said a police official. Separatist leaders have asked the people to organize protest on Friday. Internet service and cellular services were also snapped in the valley in order to stop people from exchanging messages related with protests. No vehicular movement, except medical emergencies, is being allowed in the curfew-hit districts by police and paramilitary forces, which have been deployed in strength.
