Italy welcomes dairy origin labelling law
Maurizio Martina

(AGI) Rome, May 31 - Italy has welcomed legislation for guaranteed origin labelling on milk products. Minister for Agricultural Policy Maurizio Martina, said: "This is a historic step that will benefit the Italian dairy sector as a whole, which is worth more than 20 billion euros. We want to bring in more tools to help it become even more competitive. Studies have shown that consumers are prepared to pay more for products of certified Italian origin. This decree will make it possible to keep consumers fully informed. Providing clear information about the origin of the raw material plays a crucial part in validating the work of more than 34,000 breeders that form the beating heart of this sector. We are committed to safeguarding their income on a daily basis and we are pushing for further bolstering of supply chain relations in Italy. We are still working in Brussels to ensure that this experiment will open the way to even stronger European action." (AGI). .
