(AGI) Rome, May 24 - The Italian Cooperation service has given a 200,000 euro multilateral emergency contribution to support the activities carried out by Unicef in Sri Lanka "in order to respond to the extremely serious emergency situation created by the passing of Cyclone Roanu". A note by the Italian Foreign Ministry states: "Italy's financing will assure the delivery of relief supplies, temporary shelters for displaced people and targeted interventions in the sector of water and hygiene". More specifically, the Italian contribution, which was jointly decided with the Italian Development Cooperation Agency, will make it possible to finance emergency aid activities in favour of the civilian population through the supply of drinking water in the worst hit areas and the distribution of portable toilets and hygiene kits both to individual homes and to the shelters for displaced people set up by the Government.
