(AGI) Rome, Aug 24 - Italferr, the engineering firm of the Italian State Railways Group, has strengthened its position in Africa by winning two new contracts in Egypt. Under the first deal, the Italian company will supervise the modernisation of the signalling system of the Egyptian National Railway (ENR) on the Benha-Zagazig- El-Ismailia-Port Said and Zagazig-Abu-Kebir lines. Italferr won the 3 million euro contract thanks to its Project design. The modernisation work will begin in September and last 48 months. In a second 27-month contract worth 2.2 million euros, Italferr will work alongside RFI (Italian Railway Network) and Italcertifer to upgrade the Alexandria-Cairo-Asyut line with an ETCS Level 1 on-board signalling system. In July 2014 Italferr outbid major international engineering companies in the international competition for the tender. The two new contracts further strengthen the collaboration between Italferr and ENR after the 6-year-long renovation of Egypt's railways by the Italian State Railways Group. (AGI). .
