India: Kashmir violences continue for the 45th day

(AGI) - New Delhi, Aug 22 - Curfew continued to remain in force in Srinagar district of Indian occupied Kashmir for 45th day on Monday, after the clashes between mob and forces which left one dead and 88 injured. The killing of a popular rebel commander 22-year-old Burhan Wani on July 8 sparked protests in Kashmir valley against India. At least 65 civilians have lost their lives and thousands injured by firing by the army and police personnel on protesters since July 8th. Two policemen have also been killed and hundreds of army and police personnel have been injured in the clashes. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a 75-minute-long meeting with a joint opposition parties delegation from Kashmir. Narendra Modi expressed his "deep concern and pain" over the situation there and asked all political parties to work together to find a "permanent and lasting" solution to problems in Jammu and Kashmir. An official statement released after the meeting, said the prime minister appreciated the "constructive suggestions" made by the during the talks and reiterated his government's commitment to the welfare of people. "Those who have lost their lives during recent disturbances are part of us, our nation; whether the lives lost are of our youth, security personnel or police, it distresses us," said the Prime Minister.
