(AGI) Brussels, Aug 2 - Photographer Eva Frapiccini is bringing her "Golden Jail - Discovering Subjection" to the Summer of Photography in Brussels, featuring shots taken in Cairo and Bahrain between 2012 and 2014. The event has been organised in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, and will be on display at the Palais des Beaux-Arts (Bozar) till Sep. 4. Frapiccini's singular technique of rolling up her prints and overlapping them with other images by hand is meant to reflect the erasement and "trasformismo" (transformism) carried out by those in power to preserve their status. Her work focuses on the political turmoil in Bahrain in Egypt following the Arab Spring. In her photographs of Egypt, the overlapped images allude to transformism as a policy: the overturned judicial sentences, the changing governments, and the contrasting uses of Tahrir Square reveal the immutable faces of those in power both before and after the revolution. In 2012, Frapaccini was chosen for the residency programme at The Townhouse Gallery as part of the Piedmont region's RESO' - International Network for Artist Residencies and Educational Programs, jointly carried out with the Fondazione per l'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea-CRT (Modern and Contemporary Art Foundation). Two years later, she was invited for a residency at the Al Riwaq Project Space in Manama, Bahrain, for the "Alwan 338. Foundations" Public Art Festival, curated by Alexandra Stock. (AGI). .
