(AGI) - Rome, 31 Aug. - "An event like that of August 24 isn't supposed to cause victims: scientific and technical knowledges are now at a point that we can create buildings and structures capable of dynamically endure these events. But this can only happen if you have a good knowledge of the underground of the area". Accordin to Gabriele Ponzoni, General secretary of European Federation of Geologists: "A significant event of magnitude as the one that occurred on August 24 must not make victims: the scientific technical knowledge is now such that you can create buildings and structures capable of dynamically endure these events. But this can only happen if you have a good knowledge of the structures present in the ground: that is, if the city is built on "soft ground " or alluvial, or hard as rock masses, if there're potential site effects or not, if there're risks collateral seismic induced etc". Ponzoni thinks that: "The event that hit Central Italy on August 24, - continued Ponzoni - once again reminds us that Italy, as well as many other countries in the world, is highly exposed to natural hazards and how greatly vulnerable it is, in particular to earthquakes. Unfortunately earthquakes remind us, also, that the anthropic development can not take place without extensive and deep knowledge about the territory, with a special focus on geology, in a wider scientific and geotechnical meaning. So a first step might be to: 1) Complete the geological mapping, 2) complete the seismic micro-zoning studies 3) establish the dossier of Building, 4) redevelop the entire production chain of construction". Geologists think that they can provide with his help and support in the planning and design of the cities of the future and give his particular contribution for the economic defense of all life and goods enclosed in the territory".
