(AGI) Beijing, Apr 18 - Chinese steel is experiencing difficulties due to overproduction, but the solution is to focus on quality and innovation, said Matteo Bavaresco, CEO of Danieli China. "Those involved in high-level technology right now are fortunate, because anyone investing at present is investing where there's value added, otherwise they don't invest," said the boss of one of the most prestigious Italian steel companies, which will be taking part in the fourth Shanghai Technology Fair from Apr. 21 to 23. "We produce machinery. Taking along a piece of machinery would be reductive," said Mr Bavaresco. The group intends to show what it's able to do from a technological standpoint, from intelligent mills to level four automation. "Our machinery is fully automated, environmentally friendly, with optimal efficiency and costs. We are world leaders in this. Our Shanghai [fair] space will be dedicated to these aspects." A core part of the company's business plan is its ten-year rather than five-year plans. "It is our company philosophy. Five years is reductive because machinery requires 24 to 40 months. Any machinery sold means we're already three years ahead. We need to plan over 10 years in order to develop technology," he said. He also referred to the New Silk Road, launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as a great opportunity: "Italy has the technology and skills to develop this idea. Upfront we need China: we can forget about trying to go it alone." He said working in these markets is difficult, but added: "We have been working in them for decades, and we can work with China better than others." (AGI). .
