(AGI) Toronto, Aug 5 - The Canadian government has assigned Vincenzo Di Marzo, director of the Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry of the National Research Council in Naples, the prestigious Canada Excellence Research Chair at Laval University in Quebec. The 10 million dollar grant will fund Di Marzo's research on the relationship between metabolic health and the brain's endocannabinoid system - which is responsible for neurochemical signals such as appetite, mood, and memory. Di Marzo is an internationally recognised authority on biochemistry and pharmacology, and an expert on fighting obesity and its associated chronic conditions. "With the arrival of Vincenzo Di Marzo at Universite' Laval, Canada is gaining a world leader in biomolecular chemistry," said Canada's Minister of Science, Kirsty Duncan. "The Government of Canada is proud to support his promising research, which may one day relieve those suffering from metabolic disorders, such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes, in Canada and around the world."
