Anniversary of Rome Treaties to be celebrated in China
60* anniversario Trattati di Roma (Afp)

Beijing - The 60th Anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome will be commemorated in China as well.

Italian and European institutions operating in the Asian country have organized a series of events to commemorate the anniversary of the Treaties which, back on March 25, 1957, gave birth to the European Economic Community.

Italian Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Ettore Sequi, and the head of the Delegation of the European Union to China, Hans Dietmar Schweisgut, will attend the seminar "EU at 60" on the European Union integration process to be held at the prestigious Renmin (People's) University of China in the capital city on March 24.

The seminar will be followed by an exhibition titled "Ever Closer Union - The legacy of the Treaties of Rome for today's Europe," which will be hosted also by other Chinese universities. Shanghai will hold a round table at its Jiao Tong University on March 24 to mark the anniversary.

The Italian Consul General in Shanghai, Stefano Beltrame, and the Belgian Consul General, Paul Lambert, will attend the event, where Chinese and European academicians will discuss the European integration process 60 years after the Treaties of Rome.
